CMS Baseball Drops First SCIAC Series of 2025 Season

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Pomona-Pitzer baseball team came back from a 6-0 deficit in the nightcap to take a 13-10 win over Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and complete a doubleheader sweep on Saturday at Alumni Field.

Pomona-Pitzer also took the opening game 9-5 as it improves to 18-11 overall and 8-7 in the SCIAC. CMS drops its first SCIAC series of the season after winning the first game of the series yesterday 15-4, and slips to 22-8 overall and 12-6 in league play.

Nate Seluga homered twice in the nightcap to give CMS leads both times, a solo shot to make the score 7-6 in the fourth after the Sagehens came back from 6-0 down to tie it. He then hit a three-run shot in the seventh to turn a 9-7 deficit into a 10-9 lead.

Pomona-Pitzer, though, scored twice in the seventh to take back the lead and added two more insurance runs in the eighth to win it 13-10. The Stags also had a two-run shot from Carter Bennett and a three-run shot from Bryce Didrickson in the second inning to take the 6-0 lead. Bennett finished 4-for-5 in the nightcap to pace the CMS offense.

In the first game, Pomona-Pitzer scored six times in the bottom of the second to take a 6-1 lead and held off a late CMS rally for a 9-5 win. Dillon Martin hit a two-run home rin the seventh to close to within 9-4, and the Stags loaded the bases with nobody out in the ninth, but a double play helped restrict the damage to just one run as the Sagehens closed it out.

Blaise Heher was 3-for-5 with an RBI in the opening game, while Alex Henderson was 2-for-4.

CMS will step out of conference next weekend when it travels to face George Fox in a three-game series.
