Stags Baseball Completes Four-Game Oregon Sweep with 9-2 Win over Pacific

FOREST GROVE, Ore. - Nate Seluga was 3-for-5 with a homer, three runs scored and two RBI and Alex Hendersson was 2-for-3 with two doubles and three RBI as the 11th-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps baseball team earned a 9-2 win over Pacific on Sunday afternoon.

With the win, CMS improves to 26-8 on the year, while completing a four-game sweep of its Oregon trip after taking three from George Fox on Friday and Saturday. Pacific slips to 13-15 on the year with the loss.

The Stags continued their strong pitching on the trip as allowed just 10 runs combined over the four contests. Matthew Bergan started and went five innings to get the win, allowing one run on five hits while striking out four, while Parker McGraw (sixth and seventh), Aaron Herst (eighth) and Ethan Hemby (ninth) threw the final four innings.

Henderson gave CMS the lead for good in the first inning with a sacrifice fly, after Seluga walked and went to third on a single from Dillon Martin. Henderson doubled in the fourth and came home on a sacrifice fly from Carter Bennett, and Seluga stretched the lead to 3-0 in the fifth with a solo homer.

The Boxers got a run back in the fifth, but CMS was able to push across three in the seventh to break it open. Seluga had an RBI single to score Max Pemberton, who led off with a single, and Henderson had a two-run double to make it 6-1.

Blaise Heher tacked on a two-run double in the eighth and came home on an RBI single from Rider Gordon to push the lead to 9-2. Heher and Gordon each finished 2-for-5 at the plate, as CMS combined for 14 hits.

CMS will be back in action next weekend when they return to SCIAC play with a three-game series with Caltech, facing the Beavers on the road on Friday and then hosting them in a doubleheader at Redlands on Saturday.
