CLAREMONT, Calif. -
Lindsay Eisenman got off to a strong start in the first set and a strong finish to the second, as she took a 6-1, 6-4 win over Emily Kantrovitz of Emory in the NCAA Division III Singles Championship semifinals on Monday at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center.
With the win, Eisenman moves on to tomorrow's national championship match, when she will face Jacqueline Soloveychik at 10 a.m. at Biszantz. Soloveychik advanced with a three-set win over Jimena Menendez of NYU in her semifinal.
The CMS doubles team of
Alisha Chulani and
Rebecca Kong fell in its semifinal match to the defending national champions from Babson, Olivia Soffer and Matia Cristiani by a 6-3, 6-2 final. Soffer and Cristiani defeated Chulani and
Nikolina Batoshvili in last year's national championship match in three sets.
Kantrovitz spent much of the season ranked No. 1 in the country, and entered the singles tournament as the No. 2 seed. Eisenman got off to a fast start by getting off to a 5-0 lead, before Kantrovitz broke the ice.
Eisenman finished off the first set 6-1, but Kantrovitz seized some momentum and went ahead 4-1 in the second set, looking like she would be able to earn a split. However, Eisenman responded and rattled off her second 5-0 run off the match, this one to finish it off 6-1, 6-4.
Soloveychik will be the second Wesleyan player who Eisenman will face in the singles championship, after defeating Lane Durkin in the quarterfinals yesterday. Durkin had a 22-match win streak dating back to Sept. 20, while playing at No. 2 for the Cardinals for most of the year, while Soloveychik has been their No. 1 singles player.
