CLAREMONT, Calif. -
Rebecca Kong of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's tennis team earned third-team Academic All-America honors from the College Sports Communicators, the organization announced today.
The CSC Academic All-America Teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in athletics and in the classroom. Nomination for the award requires meeting minimum standards of both athletic participation and cumulative grade point average.
Kong, who carries over a 3.9 GPA at Harvey Mudd, was one of only three sophomores selected to the women's tennis Academic All-America teams, among the 17 players selected.
Kong compiled a 25-6 singles record for the Athenas, as well as a 31-8 record in doubles, which included winning both the ITA Cup and the NCAA Division III Doubles national championships with
Lindsay Eisenman. She helped CMS to a 26-2 final record and an appearance in the NCAA Semifinals, when she won in both singles and doubles.
Kong becomes the third Academic All-America for CMS women's tennis in the last two seasons, joining Eisenman and
Alisha Chulani, who each earned it a year ago.
