CMS Athletics Partners with Positive Coaching Alliance

CLAREMONT, Calif. - As part of its service to and support of the local youth sports community, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps athletic department has partnered with the Positive Coaching Alliance for the 2025-26 academic year and will host free workshops open to coaches and parents.

The first coaches workshop, Developing Competitors Through Positive Coaching, will be held on Thursday, Sept. 4, at 6:30 p.m. at Roberts Pavilion, and is free to all local youth, high school, and college coaches.

Led by mental skills coach and author Aaron Weintraub, a former college baseball player and coach, this interactive workshop will provide coaches with research-based insights from experts in coaching education and sports psychology, and with hands-on training in field-tested practice and proven tools that coaches can implement immediately to increase the effectiveness of their coaching.

The first parents workshop, The Power of Positive Sports Parenting, will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 10, at 6:30 p.m. at Roberts Pavilion, and is free to all parents of youth, high school, and collegiate athletes.

Weintraub will guide parents on aligning their goals with those of their athletes, supporting their athletes' mental well-being, modeling and reinforcing a positive sports culture, and building an effective coach-parent relationship.

"We're thrilled to partner with Claremont McKenna, Harvey Mudd, and Scripps Colleges to support the coaches, parents, and caregivers who are shaping the future of youth sports," said Jason Sacks, PCA's Chief Executive Officer. "By making PCA's resources and workshops available on campus to the local sports community, we're helping build a stronger, more positive sports culture—one that uplifts young athletes and enhances the entire community's experience. We're looking forward to seeing the continued growth of our partnership under the leadership of Director of Athletics Erica Jasper."

Steve Schiro, who graduated from Claremont McKenna in 1979 after playing on the football team for three years and serving as the captain of the 1979 SCIAC Championship team, is a founding board chair of the Seattle chapter of the Positive Coaching Alliance.

"As a former Stag, I am thrilled that CMS is partnering with Positive Coaching Alliance to bring these workshops to campus and is opening them up to area youth sports coaches and parents," said Schiro. "These sessions are a powerful opportunity to equip coaches and parents with proven tools to help athletes grow, compete, and thrive in a positive sports culture."
