CLAREMONT, Calif. -
Hayden Beauchemin of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's cross country team earned the SCIAC Athlete of the Week Award for events through Sunday, Sept. 21, the conference office announced today.
Beauchemin earned the honor this week after helping CMS finish a close second at the Division III Pre-Nationals in Spartanburg, South Carolina. He came in third place for the Stags with a 24:46.9, taking just over 10 seconds off his previous personal best set earlier this month at the Coyote Challenge in San Bernardino (24:57.0), which moves him up from 26th to 21st in program history.
Beuachemin edged out Jacob Slater of Case Western (24:48.7) and Sam Daunt of Washington and Lee (24:49.7) in the battle for third to help the Stags finish just four points behind North Central (ranked No. 6 nationally). It marks his second award this season in two races, after also winning two weeks ago following the Coyote Challenge.
CMS will be back in action on Saturday when it travels to compete at the UC Riverside Invitational.
