SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's cross country team finished just four points behind North Central to come in second place at the Division III Pre-Nationals, held at the site of the NCAA Division III Championships in November in Spartanburg.
Hayden Beauchemin came in third place for the Stags with a 24:46.9, taking just over 10 seconds off his previous personal best set earlier this month at the Coyote Challenge in San Bernardino (24:57.0), which moves him up from 26th to 21st in program history. BJ Sorg of North Central took first in 24:29.5, followed by teammate Oscar Frontjes in 24:33.1, while Beuachemin edged out Jacob Slater of Case Western (24:48.7) and Sam Daunt of Washington and Lee (24:49.7) in the battle for third.
CMS then had the 13th, 14th, and 15th runners cross the line in succession, with
Jacob Pippel the second Stag to cross in 25:22.0, just edging out
Pierce Clark by less than a second (25:22.8).
Jonas Rickert was just over one second behind in 25:24.0, and
Hale Behan finished off the Stag scoring in 18th place in 25:27.8.
Brennan Tobin added a top-20 finish for CMS by coming in 20th with a 25:30.6,
Ethan Wood finished 30th for the Stags in 25:48.5, with
Arnav Shetty in 39th in 26:16.2.
North Central had 59 points and CMS ended with 63, with Washington and Lee ending in third place with 82 and Case Western fourth with 121.
CMS will be back in action next weekend when it travels to the UC Riverside Invitational, before competing in Claremont in two weeks at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational.
