CLAREMONT, Calif. -
Hayden Beauchemin earned a fifth-place finish to help the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's cross country team take third place at the NCAA West Regionals on Saturday morning at a rain-soaked Pomona-Pitzer cross country course.
Beauchemin finished in 25:21.8 to take fifth with WIll Shuflit of Colorado College winning in 24:50.0. The course was muddy throughout and featured areas of standing water due to torrential rains.
Jacob Pippel finished 15th for CMS in 25:44.9 to be the second Stag to cross the line, with
Pierce Clark and
Jonas Rickert earning third and fourth for CMS (and 20th and 21st) overall in identical times of 26:00.6, separated by less than a tenth of a second.
Hale Behan was the fifth scorer for CMS in 23rd place in 26:02.6, while
Jerry Xu also earned All-Region for CMS in 26:13.1, coming in 28th place overall.
Pomona-Pitzer earned the team championship with 43 points, with Colorado College edging out CMS for second place (73 points to 80). George Fox was fourth with 95 points, and UC Santa Cruz was fifth with 149.
CMS will await the NCAA selections to find out if they will earn a team qualification to nationals.
