Jerry Xu finished in 130th and
Hale Behan finished 150th (out of 294 runners) to help the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's cross country team to a 28th place finish at the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships on Saturday morning at Milliken Research Park.
Pierce Clark (181st),
Jacob Pippel (201st) and
Jonas Rickert (244th) also scored for the Stags, joining Xu in giving CMS four of its five scorers from its sophomore class. First-year
Brennan Tobin was the sixth member of the young Stag team to cross.
Xu ended with a time of 25:33.5 to pace the Stags, while Behan finished in 25:40.2 in his final race for CMS. Clark moved up five spots over the final split to finish in 25:52.8, while Pippel moved up seven spots and just missed the 26-minute barrier with a 26:01.9. Rickert's time was a 26:24.7.
Wisconsin-La Crosse took the individual title with 82 points, while SUNY Geneseo was second with 132, and Wartburg (133) and NYU (175) earned podium finishes in third and fourth, respectively.
CMS made its 17th straight team appearance at nationals, and will look to build off of this year's performance behind its young nucleus over the next two seasons.
