CLAREMONT, Calif. -
Brennan Tobin of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's cross country team earned SCIAC Newcomer of the Year honors in a vote of the league's coaches the SCIAC office announced this morning.
Tobin earned first-team all-league honors with a ninth-place finish at the SCIAC Championships last weekend, finishing in 25:38.3. He was the third Stag to cross the line, helping CMS earn a second-place finish as a team.
Tobin gradually moved up the CMS ladder all season, finishing eighth on the team in the opening race at the Coyote Challenge. He was the sixth Stag to finish at the NCAA Division III Pre-Nationals, the fifth at the UC Riverside Invitational, the fourth at the Conn College Invitational, and third at the SCIAC Championships.
All-SCIAC winners were also officially announced, with the Stags placing three on the first team after top-10 finishes at the SCIAC Championships, with
Hayden Beauchemin (second) and
Jerry Xu (eighth) joining Tobin. Earning second-team honors by placing 11th through 20th were
Jacob Pippel (14th),
Hale Behan (15th),
Jonas Rickert (16th) and
Arnav Shetty (18th).
CMS will be back in action at the Pomona-Pitzer Cross Country next weekend for the NCAA West Regionals, with nationals taking place the following weekend in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
