Stags Fall to Redlands on Senior Day

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The No. 9 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's basketball team fell 91-69 to No. 16 Redlands on Wednesday at Roberts Pavilion on a night where the Stags honored Cahal Connolly, James Frye and Luke Jacobson before the game for Senior Day.

Despite the loss, CMS finishes the regular season at 22-3 and 13-3 in the SCIAC, earning at least a share of the SCIAC regular season title. Redlands, which swept CMS in the season series, can secure the top seed with a win at home against Whittier on Saturday.

Jake Hlywiak and Lucas Gordon both scored 20 points apiece for Redlands while Jhace Boston and Chozen Amadi tallied 15 each, respectively.

The Bulldogs shot 13-of-34 from three-point range and finished with 28 fast break points compared to 10 for CMS.

Will Householter led the Stags with 18 points and four assists while Reid Jones had 16 points and seven rebounds. Joey Kennedy rounded out being the third double digit scorer for CMS with 10 points, seven rebounds and three assists and Connolly added eight points, eight rebounds, two blocks and one steal for the Stags.

The Bulldogs started the game on a 10-2 run but the Stags rallied back to take a 16-15 lead after a Nathan Noronha jumper with 11:15 remaining in the first half. Redlands closed the half by outscoring the Stags 24-16, capturing a 39-32 lead through 20 minutes of play.

Householter converted a free throw and Jones made a jumper to get CMS within four, 44-40 with 17:33 left to play in the second half but the Stags were unable to pull closer the rest of the way.

CMS will be back in action when it hosts a SCIAC Semifinal on Friday against an opponent to be determined.
