CLAREMONT, Calif. - First-years
William Jones (1650 free) and
Pierce McShane (500 free) will represent the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's swimming and diving team in the distance events at the NCAA Division III Championships in Indianapolis from March 18-21.
Jones has the ninth best time in the 1650 this season at 15:37.94, which earned him the SCIAC championship, giving him first-team All-America potential (top eight). He will try to continue the Stag 1650 legacy left behind by
Lucas Lang, who won back-to-back national championships the last two years and was a four-time first-team All-American from 2022-25.
McShane earned the No. 15 seed in the 500 free with his time of 4:28.48, which won the SCIAC title for the Stags. He also has the 20th best time in the 400 IM amongst invited swimmers (3:57.15), giving him the potential to add that event if enough qualified swimmers opt out to swim in other events. He will also try to make his way onto the 500 free podium, after Lang earned first-team All-America honors last year.
The Stag divers will also be in action this weekend at the NCAA Regional Qualifiers at Emory, to try to add to the CMS contingent in Indianapolis.
Beckett Heywood,
Logan Mansfield,
Bennet Matazzoni,
Zach Meisel, and
Ethan Sattley will all be competing in Atlanta on both the one-meter and three-meter boards this weekend.
