INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - William Jones of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's swimming and diving team qualified for the consolation heat in the evening session of the NCAA Division III Championships, earning 14th place to take second-team All-America honors on the opening day of the championships on Wednesday.

Jones swam a 4:28.28 in prelims, which took 2.3 seconds off his personal best coming in and gave him the 16th and final spot in the evening session by just .22. He then moved up two spots in the final to take 14th for the Stags, while also moving up to fourth all-time in CMS history.

Tomorrow's action will see Jones and Pierce McShane in the 400-yard individual medley, before concluding the meet on Saturday with Jones in the 1650-yard freestyle and McShane in the 200-yard backstroke.

Jones will try to continue their recent history of success in the distance events, as Lucas Lang won the last two national titles in the 1650 in both 2024 and 2025 and was a four-time first-team All-American.

A top-eight finish would give the Stags a first-team All-American in the mile for the fifth year in a row. Jones currently is seeded ninth in the 1650 with a 15:37.94, which ranks third in CMS history, with Lang holding the record with a 15:17.24.
