Box Score EAGLE ROCK, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's tennis team swept all three doubles courts, and took six straight-set wins in singles, as it earned a 7-0 win over Occidental on Saturday.
CMS now stands at 27-1 overall and 6-0 in the SCIAC, setting up a battle for the conference's regular season title at home next Saturday against Pomona-Pitzer (5-0 heading into today's match at Caltech). The Stags have now won 176 SCIAC-sponsored matches in a row, and are one win shy of their 20th straight unbeaten regular season in league play.
Doubles saw CMS pushed at the top two lines, but
Anirudh Reddy and
Henry Wilson were able to get the first win in the books 6-2 at No. 3.
Advik Mareedu and
Caleb Settles secured the doubles point with a 6-4 win at No. 1, and
Josh Kim and
Sibi Raja finished the sweep with a 6-4 win at No. 2.
Settles had a dominant 6-1, 6-0 win for the first singles point at No. 4, to extend the CMS lead to 2-0. Wilson then picked up a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 2, and Kim finished off the clinch with a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 3.
Reddy added the fifth point for the Stags with a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 6, and Mareedu continued to add to his record-breaking career singles total with the Stags with a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 1. Amirth Kodumuri made it six straight-set wins when he prevailed in a second-set tiebreaker for a 6-2, 7-6 win at No. 5.
CMS will battle Pomona-Pitzer next Saturday at 6 p.m., with the winner earning the top seed in the following week's SCIAC Tournament.
