Box Score LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Down 14-0 at halftime, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps football team scored a pair of second half touchdowns, but in the end fell short, losing 21-14 at Occidental on Oct. 25 at Jack Kemp Stadium. The loss for CMS was their second in a row – both road losses – and dropped their record to 2-4 overall, 1-3 in SCIAC play.
Each of Occidental's three touchdowns in the game came through the air and two of the touchdown passes were 40-plus yards. CMS received the ball to start the game but were forced to punt. Occidental (4-2) on its first possession had its first long touchdown pass of the night, a 40-yard strike from Bryan Scott to Kaleb Mitchell which gave Oxy a 7-0 lead just eight minutes into the game.
The first scoring opportunity of the game for CMS came in the second quarter after a 23-play, 93-yard drive that took 11-plus minutes set up a CMS field goal attempt. The 21-yard field goal attempt missed wide right, ending the drive with 7:03 left in the first half.
With under a minute left before halftime, Oxy added to its lead on a 17-yard touchdown pass from Scott to Cordell Harris. Scott threw for 284 yards and three touchdowns for Oxy and was forced into two interceptions by the CMS defense. Junior defensive back

Late in the third quarter, CMS scored its first touchdown and narrowed the Oxy lead to 14-7 when freshman running back
Andrew Segre found the end zone on a 1-yard run with 1:56 left in the third quarter.
On Oxy's next possession, they got within field goal range but were turned away when Ingram blocked the attempt. One possession later, Oxy jumped back ahead by two touchdowns at 21-7 on their second 40-plus yard touchdown pass of the game, this time a 45-yard pass from Scott to Samuel Crizer with 8:23 remaining in the game.
Just over three minutes later, again CMS moved within one score as sophomore quarterback
Trey Reynolds found freshman wide receiver
Trey Smith for a 10-yard touchdown pass to make it 21-14. Reynolds threw for 116 yards and ran for 96 yards and the CMS offense did not commit a turnover in the game.
In the final three minutes of the game, CMS had possession of the ball twice but were unable to even the score, as both drives ended after failed fourth down attempts.

Nick Gott rushed for 89 yards while junior wide receiver
Ryan Farney had five catches for 68 yards. CMS had 347 yards of total offense while Oxy had 440 yards.
Having played its last two games on the road, CMS is back home on Zinda Field on Saturday, Nov. 1 against Cal Lutheran. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
