THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's water polo team rallied from three goals down in the second half to force overtime, but the Stags fell in sudden death to Cal Lutheran 10-9 on Saturday, snapping a six-game winning streak.
With the loss, CMS falls to 11-8 on the year and 4-2 in the SCIAC.
The Stags were down 8-6 with just over a minute remaining, but were able to force the overtime after
Nick Kennedy scored with 1:05 to go and
Cristian Pang netted the equalizer with 10 seconds left.
Cal Lutheran went ahead in overtime, but
Thomas Walker was able to tie it back up 9-9 with 56 seconds left, sending the game into sudden death. Just 23 seconds in, Cal Lutheran was able to get the game-winner from Kayden Sourbeer to take tha 10-9 win.
CMS was down 7-4 late in the third quarter, but
Luke (Bear) Weigle scored with 1:23 left, and Pang beat the buzzer with one second left to make it 7-6 going into the final stanza.
Kennedy finished with two goals and three assists for CMS, while
Jack Bryant joined
Cristian Pang with two goals.
CMS will be back in action next Saturday when it hosts Redlands for an 11 a.m. contest.
