PASADENA, Calif. -
Flora Glantz had two goals and an assist to lead the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's soccer team to a 5-3 win at Caltech on Saturday afternoon.
The Athenas picked up their fifth win in a row as they improve to 10-2-3 overall and 8-2 in the SCIAC heading into the final week of the regular season. Caltech slips to 3-11-1 overall and 2-9 in the SCIAC with the loss.
CMS jumped out to a 2-0 lead early and outshot Caltech 33-8, but had to hold off several comeback efforts from the Beavers to come away with the road win. Glantz assisted on the opening goal from
Tori Holden at the 21:26 mark, and then scored her first goal at the 28:31 mark to make it a 2-0 game.
Caltech struck right back just 24 seconds later to cut the lead to 2-1, but
Alyssa Fang was able to give CMS a 3-1 lead into halftime when she scored with just 2:57 left on the first half clock.
The Beavers opened the second half with a quick goal to put some pressure back on CMS, cutting the lead to 3-2 just 2:28 into the second stanza, but Glantz responded just 2:15 later to restore the two-goal margin.
Jordan Yates pushed the lead to 5-2 with 26:50 left off a feed from
Cate Lewison, and the Beavers were able to close out the scoring with a harmless goal in the 85th minute to make the final 5-3.
CMS will close out the regular season this week with a pair of big games as it pursues a SCIAC regular season title, traveling to Whittier on Wednesday and closing out with first-place Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday. Wins in both would give the Athenas no worse than a share of the regular season title.
