CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's water polo team dropped its third one-goal game in conference this season, falling 7-6 to Pomona-Pitzer on Wednesday at Axelrood Pool.
The loss drops CMS to 12-9 overall on the season and 5-3 in SCIAC, while Pomona-Pitzer moves into a tie for first in the league at 13-8 overall and 6-1 in conference.
Luke (Bear) Weigle had two goals for CMS, while
Jake Taylor tallied eight saves in goal to go along with three saves.
CMS had the early upper hand, leading 3-1 after the first quarter behind goals from
Thomas Walker,
Cristian Pang and
Jeffrey Koretz. Pomona-Pitzer scored three goals in a row, before Weigle was able to knot the score with 1:50 left in the half, making it a 4-4 game going into the break.
The Sagehens got the first two goals of the third quarter before
Len Korol answered to close to 6-5, but the Stags didn't score again until Weigle scored off a rebound with nine seconds left, making the final 7-6.
CMS will be back in action when it travels to Redlands on Saturday, before a rematch with Pomona-Pitzer on the road on Wednesday.
