CLAREMONT, Calif. -
Walter Kuhlenkamp of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps football team earned the SCIAC Offensive Player of the Week Award for games through Saturday, Oct. 5, the conference office announced today.
Kuhlenkamp threw for a career-high 257 yards, to go with two touchdowns and no interceptions, as CMS maintained the Sixth Street Trophy with a road win at Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday. His efforts in the first half staked CMS to a 20-7 lead, and the Stags were able to hold on for a 20-14 win.
On the first drive of the game. Kuhlenkamp connected with
Mason Cotton for a 34-yard touchdown to put CMS ahead 7-0. On the second drive, he connected with Cotton again on a 3rd-and-16 to put the ball down at the Pomona-Pitzer two-yard line to set up a short touchdown run from
Justin Edwards. Then, after the Sagehens got back within 14-7, he found
Anderson Cynkar for a career-long 85-yard touchdown pass for what turned out to be the winning points,
CMS will be back in action on Saturday for a big home game against Chapman. The Stags are 12-2 in the last two seasons, with both losses coming to Chapman, the second coming when CMS fell one yard short of the winning touchdown in the closing seconds.
