Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Stags Basketball Falls to Puget Sound 72-64

TACOMA, Wash. - AJ Rohosy had 20 points on 8-of-13 shooting, but the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's fell on the road to Puget Sound 72-64 on Saturday evening.

The loss was the first of the young season for CMS, which drops to 2-1 overall, while Puget Sound improves to 3-1 with the win.

CMS overcame a 10-point halftime deficit (38-28) to take the lead in the second half. Caelan Jones three-pointer got CMS back within 38-35 in the early moments of the second half, and a Rohosy jumper in the paint got the Stags within 43-41 with 16:00 to play. Reid Jones then put CMS ahead at 47-46 with 12:55 to play.

The Loggers took the lead back, though, and after Rohosy scored to pull CMS within 63-59 with 3:46 to go, Taj Phillips hit a jumper and a three-pointer on two straight possessions to make it a 68-59 Logger lead with 2:26. Caelan Jones then hit a three-pointer to give the Stags some life with 2:24 to go, but they couldn't convert on their next two possessions to try to draw closer and the Loggers were able to hang on.

CMS started fast, jumping out to a 6-0 lead on a Rohosy jumper and then matched its six-point lead 12-6 on a three-pointer from Neil Owens and again at 17-11 on a three-pointer from Caelan Jones. An 8-0 run gave the Loggers their first lead at 21-19, and a four-point play from Will Pohland extended it to a 38-28 lead at the break.

Caelan Jones finished with 13 points, knocking down three of his four shots from beyond the arc. Liam Ruttledge led Puget Sound with 19 points, while Phillips added 17.

CMS will be back in action next weekend when it travels to the UC Santa Cruz Invitational to face the host Banana Slugs and Whitman.
