The Stags held Southwestern to just 35.4 percent shooting, including 20 percent (4-20) from three-point territory, while forcing 20 turnovers. Jones and AJ Rohosy sparked the defensive effort with three steals apiece.

Southwestern led 3-2 early, before the Stags used an 11-0 run to take an early 10-point lead. The Pirates got back within 13-11 with 8:38 left in the half, but Jones hit three-pointers on three straight CMS possessions and added two free throws on the fourth for a personal 11-2 run that got the lead back up to 24-13.

Power beat the buzzer with a put back to end the half and give CMS a 33-22 lead going into the break, and after Southwestern pulled within 35-27 early in the second half, the Stags went on a 14-0 run to put it away, capped off by a Brady Karich jumper. Luke Jacobson, Stuart McCallum and Nathan Noronha capped off the scoring in the closing minutes.

CMS will be back in action at home tomorrow (5 p.m.) for a big regional matchup with Trinity (Texas), which edged Pomona-Pitzer 73-71 on Friday to improve to 4-0.
