ORANGE, Calif. - Junior
Cate Lewison had the first two-goal game of her career, and first-year
Elsie Lindeman added her first collegiate goal, as the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's soccer team took a convincing 3-0 road win over Chapman on Saturday evening at Chapman Stadium.
With the win, CMS moves to 3-1-3 on the season and 1-1 in the SCIAC, after dropping its first game 1-0 to defending national champion Cal Lutheran on Wednesday. Chapman falls to 2-2-1 overall and 1-1 in the SCIAC with the loss.
Lewison scored her first goal in the 18th minute from the left side of the penalty area, when she one-timed a pass from
Ava Schmitt.
The score held until the 70th minute, when Lewison gave the Athenas some insurance, getting to a long hit-ahead pass from
Riley Zitar on the right side of the box and converting for her first career brace with 20:09 to play.
CMS tacked on an extra goal in the 78th minute, when Chapman goalie Aaliyah Bustamante deflected a crossing pass outside the box, but Lindeman was able to beat the Panther defense to it, take a dribble, and send a 20-yard shot into the right side of the net to make it a 3-0 game.
Andra Marinescu had fives for CMS to get the shutout, in an evenly-played game that saw the Athenas hold an 11-10 edge in shots and a 4-1 edge in corner kicks.
CMS will be back in action on Wednesday when it travels to Redlands for a 7 p.m. contest.
