REDLANDS, Calif. -
Frankie Fragola scored three goals and
Sena Howell added two goals and an assist as the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's soccer team scored four goals in each half to capture a dominant 8-1 win at Redlands on Wednesday at Farquhar Field.
With the win, CMS improves to 4-1-3 on the season and 2-1 in the SCIAC, with the only loss a 1-0 defeat to defending national champion Cal Lutheran.
Flora Glantz opened the scoring in the 14th minute for CMS off of assists from Howell and
Cate Lewison, and then assists on a goal from
Emma Fogg just 2:18 later to make it a 2-0 lead for the Athenas just 16:11 into the game.
Fragola then pushed the lead to 4-0 at the half with a pair of goals, the first coming at the 30:10 mark off an assist from
Kaitlyn Helfrich, and the second coming with just 1:36 remaining before the half off an assist from
Kateri Trujillo.
Riley Zitar made it a 5-0 game at the 63:14 mark off an
Ava Allen assist, which started a wild sequence as Redlands scored 54 seconds later, but then Fragola finished off her hat trick 25 seconds after that score to make it a 6-1 game with 25:27 left.
Howell then capped off the scoring with her first two collegiate goals, the first coming off assists from Carmel Randloph and
Robyn Dizon with 11:34 left to play, and the second coming with 5:31 left.
CMS had a 21-9 edge in shots and a 4-2 edge in corner kicks on the day.
The Athenas will be back in action when they host Whittier on Saturday for a 7 p.m. contest.
