CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's swimming and diving team won 15 of 16 events as it cruised to a 239-53 win over Occidental on Saturday at Axelrood Pool.
With the win, CMS moves to 4-2 overall on the season and 4-1 in conference meets.
Mackenzie Mayfield (200 free, 200 breast),
Annika Sharma (50 free, 200 back), and
Sun Young Byun (100 back, 100 fly) each won multiple individual events for the Athenas.
CMS opened the swimming portion of the meet with a win in the 200 medley relay, as Sharma,
Kelly Prawira, Mayfield and
Ally Rudolph finished in 1:49.05, to win by 1.83 seconds over the CMS "B" team of
Madeleine Kan,
Milan Manfredi, Annettte Chang, and Byun.
Revere Schmidt then won the first individual race by taking the 1000 free in 10:44.40, with
Avalon Sanders and
Kyra Burns finishing second and third.
Mayfield then took the first of her two wins in the 200 free, finishing in 1:57.46, a margin of 1.27 seconds over
Katy Shaw, while Kan came in third. Byun was the only swimmer to break a minute in the 100 back, earning a 59.21, while Sammy Ennis was second and
Nika Makhervaks came in third.
Prawira won the 100 breast in 1:08.52, with Manfredi earning second.
Anna Werts earned first in the 200 fly with a time of 2:18.60, while
Praise Okodogbe was second. Sharma then capped off the first half of the swim meet with a 24.87 in the 50 free, as Rudolph came in second.
Izzy Doud took the three-meter dive during the intermission to give CMS the sweep, after
Anna Zeren was first in the one-meter dive.
Josie Kearns came in second in the three-meter and
Meilan Uyeno was third, after earning second in the one-meter.
After the intermission, Sharma earned her second individual win in the 200 back in 2:09.90, with
Molly Beetner earning second. Mayfield then took the 200 breast in 2:27.55, with Manfredi second and Schmidt third.
Allison Nguyen was first in the 500 free in 5:17.85, followed by Makervaks and Werts in second and third, and Byun had a strong effort in the 100 fly, finishing in 56.36, with Kan second and
Aanya Kongettira third.
Beetner then took first in the final individual race, winning the 200 IM in 2:13.30, with Prawira second and Kuhlmann third. The 400 free relay team of Mayfield, Sharma, Shaw and Kan capped off the meet with a 3:37.49 to give CMS wins in 15 of 16 events.
CMS will be back in action this week, with the divers traveling to the Lancer Diving Invitational at California Baptist on Thursday, and the swimmers hosting the Lancers in a distance meet at Axelrood Pool on Friday at 1 p.m. The Athenas will then host a double dual meet with Cal Lutheran and La Verne on Saturday at 10:30 a.m.
