ROME, Ga. -
Rebecca Kong and
Lindsay Eisenman had a dominant performance to take the doubles championship at the ITA Cup at the Rome Tennis Center on Sunday, defeating Jay Xiao and Lia Melvin of Johns Hopkins 6-1, 6-2.
Kong also finished as the runner-up in singles, falling to top-seeded Matia Cristiani of Babson 6-1, 6-3.
Eisenman picked up her second national title of the calendar year, after also winning the NCAA Division III singles championship at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center in May. Kong reached the semifinals of the NCAA Division III doubles championship last year, with
Alisha Chulani, who graduated in May.
Kong got off to a slow start in singles, but battled back to push Cristiani in the second set. With the score tied 3-3, Kong had two break points to try to take a 4-3 lead, but Cristiani fought them off and then got a break to go up 5-3 before serving out the match.
The doubles title ended a successful ITA season for the Athenas, who advanced both Kong and first-year
Ananya Sriniketh to the ITA Cup semifinals in singles.
