Box Score CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's soccer team honored its six seniors prior to the contest, but fell in a tight 2-1 battle to La Verne on Saturday evening at Pritzlaff Field.
Bo Gardner scored his first career goal when he headed in a cross from
Collin Ross with 5:30 remaining to close the gap to 2-1 after La Verne scored twice with less than 20 minutes to play in the 71st and 80th minute.
Two minutes later,
John Laidlaw cracked a 25-yard shot that looked like it had a chance of giving CMS a dramatic equalizer, but it whistled just wide of the right post.
The Stags had the best chance in the first half off a free kick, but
Clayton Thomas had his 25-yarder hit the crossbar.
Daniel Kotkosky had a big save for CMS early in the second half after La Verne got free in the box to keep the game scoreless.
Henry Otte started in goal and maintained his 0.00 career goals against average on his Senior Day. Kotkosky, Laidlaw,
Ben Bacdayan,
Gray Mollenkamp and
Shaan Malik were also honored pregame.
CMS will be back in action on Wednesday when it hosts Caltech for a 7 p.m. contest.
