CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's soccer team honored its six seniors prior to the contest and went on to take a 5-0 win over Caltech on Saturday afternoon at Pritzlaff Field.
With the win, CMS ends the regular season with a 13-2-3 record and an 8-2-2 mark in SCIAC, and will be the No. 3 seed in the SCIAC Tournament, which will be held next week
Sadie Brown,
Ivy Doran,
McKenzie Emmons,
Cate Lewison,
Chloe Valkin and
Riley Zitar were honored before the contest, and Emmons went on to score one of the CMS goals on a penalty kick.
Zitar picked up an assist on the first goal of the game from
Flora Glantz, while Brown played the first half in goal and had one save to combine on the shutout, giving her eight solo shutouts and two combined shutouts this season.
Andra Marinescu started the second half, and
Shannon Bennitt finished out the final 15 minutes in her collegiate debut.
Lexie Roth and
Preslie Lampitt added goals for CMS, while the fifth goal for the Athenas was credited as an own goal.
CMS will next be in action in the SCIAC Tournament at second-seeded Cal Lutheran on Wednesday. A year ago, CMS defeated Cal Lutheran 2-1 on the road in the SCIAC Semifinals, and then defeated top-seeded Pomona-Pitzer 1-0 in the finals. The Athenas will try to follow a similar path this year, with Pomona-Pitzer earning the top seed and the right to host Saturday's finals if it advances.
