Simone Sabeeh swept both diving events for the third time in her first three collegiate meets, and
Sun Young Byun recorded the fastest 100 fly time in the field, to highlight the performance of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's swimming and diving team this weekend at the La Verne Winter Collegiate Invite, hosted at East Los Angeles College (ELAC).
Sabeeh totaled 200.15 points in the one-meter dive, to win by 8.8 points over Paige Vicente of UC Santa Cruz (191.35), while
Josie Kearns came in fourth with 184.6 points out of 17 competitors.
In the three-meter, she won a close five-way battle, edging Taylor O'Malley of UC Santa Cruz (217.85 to 216.80), with Vincente also close behind with 215.90, followed by Lilly Gillespie of Pomona-Pitzer (214.75) and Briseis Valenzuela of UC Santa Cruz (213.10) in a field of 15 divers.
Swimmers competed in the morning prelims on Saturday in a 15-team field that included eight Division II programs and seven Division III. Byun recorded the fastest 100 fly time in the field (out of 77 competitors) with a 54.96. First-year
Deanna Wen also had a top 10 time with a 57.30, with
Annika Sharma close behind with a 57.57.
Katy Shaw had the fifth-best time in the 200 free with a 1:53.59, and
Mackenzie Mayfield had the seventh-best time in the 400 IM with a 4:34.44.
CMS will be back in action in two weeks when it competes against Pomona-Pitzer in a two-day dual meet on Dec. 5-6.
