CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's water polo team honored its five seniors prior to the contest, and went on to take a 20-9 win over Chapman on Saturday afternoon at Axelrood Pool.

Donovan Davidson,
Ivey Gehring,
Jake Taylor,
Thomas Walker, and
Luke (Bear) Weigle were honored prior to their final regular season home game, although the win guaranteed that CMS will get to host a SCIAC Semifinal in two weeks as well. The Stags improved to 18-5 overall and 9-1 in the SCIAC with the win.
Davidson finished with four goals for the Stags, Walker and Gehring each had two, Weigle had one, and Taylor had 10 saves to get the win in net.
Nick Kennedy led all scored with five goals and three assists, while Walker also had three assists.
The score was deadlocked 3-3 after the first quarter, behind goals from
Gavin Netherton, Kennedy, and
Jeffrey Koretz, but CMS broke it open with nine goals in the second quarter to take a 12-6 lead into the break. Davidson opened the scoring in the second, and after Chapman tied it, CMS got five goals in a row to pull ahead 9-4. Walker had two goals in the run, while Davidson, Kennedy and
Stryker Scales each added one.
Jake Bryant answered a Chapman goal to make it 10-5, and after the Panthers closed to within 10-6, Davidson and Kennedy capped off the half with goals to make it 12-6 at intermission.
Gehring started the second half with his first goal, and
Christopher Petrossian ended the third with a goal. Weigle and
Tobias Schoenwald added goals in the fourth.
CMS will close out the regular season with two road games this week, heading to Occidental on Wednesday and La Verne on Saturday, before playing in the SCIAC Tournament Nov. 20-22.
