ORANGE, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's swimming and diving team defeated both Chapman and Whittier in a double-dual on Saturday in its first SCIAC competition of the 2025-26 season.
The Athenas dominated the distance events, earning a 1-2-3 finish in the 1650, with
Revere Schmidt coming in first place in 17:46.31, breaking a pool record of 18:03.92 that had been set in 2016.
Corley Smith added a second-place finish, and
Louisa Lungershausen ended in third for the Athenas.
CMS then had the top five finishers in the 500 free, with
Katy Shaw winning in 5:11.88, followed by
Allison Nguyen,
Kyra Burns, Lungershausen and
Samantha Wong.
Reigning SCIAC Diver of the Week
Simone Sabeeh swept both boards for the second time in her collegiate career, earning a regional qualifying score on both boards.
Meilan Uyeno also had a regional qualifying score in the one-meter. Reigning SCIAC Swimmer of the Week
Avalon Sanders won the 200 free by almost three seconds, finishing in 1:54.70.
The Athenas opened with a win in the 200-yard medley relay behind
Sun Young Byun,
Elyse Newlands,
Mackenzie Mayfield and
Madeleine Kan, finishing in 1:47.19 to win by 2.5 seconds over Chapman. Byun then took the 100 fly in 55.73, with Kan second in 56.80. Mayfield earned first in the 200 IM in 2:11.25, winning 2.6 seconds.
Annika Sharma was the winner in the 200 fly in 2:15.55, a margin of just over two seconds. The Athenas then capped off the meet with a victory in the 400 free relay, as Byun, Sanders, Nguyen and Kan finished in 3:33.27, which broke the pool record of 3:33.37, which was set by Biola last season.
CMS will be back in action on Saturday for its home opener against Caltech, beginning at 10:30 a.m.
