Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Stags Basketball Holds Off Vassar 73-61 to Close out 2025 at 11-0

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Will Householter had 24 points, and Cahal Connolly (17 points, 11 rebounds) and Joey Kennedy (10 points, 12 rebounds) each had double-doubles as the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's basketball team stayed perfect at 11-0 with a 73-62 win over Vassar on Tuesday afternoon at Roberts Pavilion.

Reid Jones added 14 points for CMS, which is now just four wins shy of the best start in program history (15-0 in 2011-12), while Vassar suffers just its second loss and slips to 6-2.

The Brewers scored first, but that was their only lead of the game, as CMS took a 29-20 lead into halftime, and maintained at least a five-point lead the rest of the way.

The last time that Vassar got within five was 47-42 with 10:47 to go, but CMS had the next six points with James Frye and Householter each converting jumpers in the paint off of Brady Karich assists, and Jones capping it off with a fast break layup to make it 53-42.

Jones hit the dagger when he beat the shot clock buzzer with 6:22 to go and the Stags up by seven. He converted a three-pointer when the Stags inbounded the ball from their own backcourt after a deflection with only four seconds to shoot, as Kennedy caught the long inbounds pass and flipped the ball to Jones cutting off him, who then nailed the trey from the left wing as the horn sounded.

That basket triggered a 9-0 run which gave CMS its largest lead at 16 points (62-46) on a Kennedy jumper, before the Stags settled for a 12-point win.

Kennedy added seven assists and five blocks for the Stags to go with his 10 points and 12 rebounds, while Householter finished with six rebounds and five assists to go with his 24 points.

CMS will be back in action on Saturday when it travels to Caltech, looking to move to 3-0 in SCIAC play.
