CLAREMONT, Calif. -
Elyse Newlands won both breaststroke events,
Sun Young Byun and
Mackenzie Mayfield swept the butterfly events, and
Simone Sabeeh led a 1-2-3 finish in the one-meter dive as the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's swimming and diving team dropped a two-day dual to Pomona-Pitzer 218-134 on Friday and Saturday at Haldeman Pool.
Newlands took the 100 breast in 1:04.12, winning by .39 over Francesca Coppo of Pomona-Pitzer and moving into fifth place all-time in CMS history. She added a 2:20.99 in the 200 breast, winning by 4.18 seconds over Kiana Li of the Sagehens, and taking the No. 7 spot in CMS history.
Byun won the 100 fly in 54.88, just .1 off her personal best of 54.78, which ranks No. 2 all-time at CMS, just .02 behind the program record. She earned the win by a comfortable margin of .8 seconds over Taylor Park of Pomona-Pitzer with Mayfield in third in 55.80.
Mayfield won the 200 fly in 2:03.15, a margin of 1.62 seconds of Bennett Jones of Pomona-Pitzer. Mayfield holds the program record of 2:01.30, set last season.
Sabeeh improved to 8-for-8 in diving events this season, sweeping both events for the fourth time in four meets with a score of 246.83 on the one-meter.
Josie Kearns was second and
Meilan Uyeno finished third for CMS.
Katy Shaw added a second-place finish for CMS in the 1650 with a 17:27.78, with
Revere Schmidt in third. Byun, Mayfield,
Deanna Wen and
Madeleine Kan capped off the meet with a 3:27.88 in the 400 free relay, which ranks ninth in CMS history.
