Caelan Jones scored 32 points on 15-21 shooting, and
AJ Rohosy added 29 on 13-14 shooting (10-10 in the second half) as the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's basketball team pulled away from Caltech for a 96-67 win on Saturday at Roberts Pavilion.
With the win, CMS improves to 14-4 overall and 8-1 in SCIAC play, while Caltech drops to 0-18 overall and 0-9 in league play.
Reid Jones set a career-high with six steals, to go along with eight points, five rebounds and six assists, as the Stags shot 58 percent for the game (40-69) and 65 percent after halftime (26-40), as they scored 58 points after intermission.
Caelan Jones, who had nine three-pointers when he set a career high with 38 points against St. Mary's earlier this season, did most of his damage inside the arc, shooting 13-17 on twos, and 2-4 on threes.
Caltech kept it close for a while, trailing just 33-29 with 2:19 left in the half, before
Caelan Jones closed out the half with a jumper and a three-pointer to make it 38-29 at intermission. Rohosy scored on the first three second-half possessions for the Stags, and then he had the first seven points in a 13-2 stretch that turned a 46-36 lead into a commanding 59-38 advantage.
CMS held a 42-28 advantage on the glass, led by Rohosy's nine.
Luke Jacobson matched his career high with six points off the bench, including a dunk to cap the scoring for the Stags.
CMS will be back in action when it travels to Redlands for a key SCIAC contest on Wednesday. The Stags won the first meeting 99-97, behind 36 points and 16 rebounds from Rohosy.
