Stags Basketball Cruises Past Occidental for 86-57 Win

CLAREMONT, Calif. -  The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's basketball team had a 52-point first half as it cruised to a decisive victory over Occidental by a final score of 86-57 at Roberts Pavilion on Wednesday evening.

With the win, CMS moves to 15-6 overall and 9-3 in the SCIAC, while Occidental falls to 8-14 overall and 3-9 in league play. AJ Rohosy was the top scorer with 22 points, making 8 of his 10 field goal attempts and adding eight rebounds. Rohosy's performance continued his impressive streak, as he scored 20 or more points for the fifth straight game and ninth in his last 10.

Reid Jones had a standout performance, scoring 11 points on 5-for-8 shooting, contributing six steals to match his career high set against Caltech last week, and dishing out five assists. Robert Power also excelled defensively, recording four steals while also contributing eight points and six rebounds. 

In the first half, CMS established an early lead with Rohosy scoring the opening jumper and adding a layup shortly after. Reid Jones contributed significantly with multiple assists and steals, aiding in the team's scoring momentum. CMS capitalized on turnovers by the Tigers, scoring several fast-break points, including a 3-pointer by Caelan Jones at 13:00, which pushed their lead further. The Stags ended the half on a Matt Meredith jumper to take a 52-34 lead into the break.

The second half saw CMS continue its momentum capitalized on turnovers, with multiple steals leading to fast-break points, including a dunk by Matt Meredith at 62-34. A Robert Power 3-pointer pushed the lead to 76-41, and a Cahal Connolly lay-up gave CMS its largest lead at 79-41, before the Stags settled for an 86-57 win. 

CMS will be back in action on Saturday when it hosts Pomona-Pitzer for a 4 p.m. contest.
