ATLANTA, Ga. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps baseball team rallied from down 4-0 and 6-4 to tie the game twice, but ended up falling to Emory 7-6 in the final game of a three-game series on Saturday.
After falling behind 4-0, the Stags surged back even on a three-run homer from
Alex Henderson in the sixth.
Carter Bennett started with a double, and after advancing to third on a wild pitch, he scored on
Blaise Heher's double. Henderson then hit a three-run homer to right field, leveling the score at 4-4.
After Emory scored twice in the bottom of the seventh, the Stags added two more runs.
Bryce Didrickson's single up the middle brought home Heher, and later,
Nate Seluga grounded out to shortstop, allowing
Keegan Cabrera to score. Emory, though, was able to score a run in the bottom of the eighth without a hit, using a walk, hit-by-pitch, error and fielder's choice to plate the go-ahead run.
With two outs in the ninth, the Stags loaded the bases on a
Dillon Martin single, an error, and an intentional walk to Henderson, but the Eagles were able to get the final out they needed to secure the series win.
CMS used seven pitchers, as it tried to get its full staff some work on opening weekend.
Hamilton Finefrock threw 2.1 innings of one-hit relief.
The Stags will be back in action next weekend when they open SCIAC play with a three-game series with Occidental, including a single game on the road on Friday and a doubleheader at Whittier on Saturday.
