Stags Baseball Rolls to SCIAC-Opening Win Over Occidental 14-3

EAGLE ROCK, Calif. - Alex Henderson was 3-for-4 with a grand slam as the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps secured a decisive 14-3 victory over Occidental in a SCIAC game held on Friday afternoon.

CMS moves to 2-2 on the year with the win and starts off conference play at 1-0, after a game that saw the Stags take control early by scoring six runs in the second inning and adding eight more in the third before coasting to the win.

In the second inning, AHenderson started things with a single, which was followed by a double from Carter Bennett, to score the first run. Bryce Didrickson hit a two-run homer down the right field line, and Dillon Martin capped off the inning with a three-run homer, bringing the score to 6-0.

The third inning saw CMS extend their lead with eight more runs. Henderson began the inning with a single, and after loading the bases, Slader Spoor's single brought in another run. Dillon Martin's single, coupled with an error, added two more runs, and then Alex Henderson hit a grand slam to left field, widening the lead to 14-2.

Henderson finished 3-for-4, with three runs scored and four RBI. Martin finished with five RBI, while Didrickson added two runs, one hit, and two RBI. Andrew recorded the win with one inning pitched, striking out one, while Bryant Smaaladen pitched the final four innings, allowing one earned run on five hits, striking out three.

The two teams will complete a three-game series tomorrow with a doubleheader at Whittier.
