CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's tennis team won all three doubles matches in tight fashion, and went on to capture a 7-0 win over Brandeis on Friday afternoon at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center.
With the win, CMS is now 2-0 on the season, after opening up against Division II Point Loma last week. Brandeis falls to 0-3.
Ella Brissett and
Muduo Zhou won the first doubles match by taking a 6-4 win, after jumping out to a 5-0 lead and having to hold off a Brandeis comeback attempt. Brissett went on to earn the clinching point in singles at No. 3 by coming back after a slow start for a 0-6, 6-2, 6-0 win for the fourth and final point.
Zhou also picked up a singles win at No. 4, earning a 6-4, 7-5 win.
Alisha Chulani and
Lindsay Eisenman earned a 7-5 win at No. 1 singles, after also holding off a Brandeis comeback after jumping out to a 4-1 lead. Eisenman earned the first singles point at No. 2, with a quick 6-1, 6-0 win, while Chulani closed out the match in a tight one at No. 1, prevailing 6-3, 6-7, 10-8 after falling 7-5 in the second-set tiebreaker.
The final doubles match went to a tiebreaker at No. 3, where first-years
Rebecca Kong and
Emily Ing earned a 7-6 win (7-4 in the tiebreaker) to complete the sweep. Kong went on to win her singles match at No. 5 by a 6-0, 6-0 final to make the score 3-0 and set up Brissett's clinch. Celestine Cedillo-Vayson de Pradenne was also victorious in singles, winning 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) at No. 6.
CMS will be back in action tomorrow when it takes on Redlands for a 10 p.m. contest.
