ST. PETER. Minn. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's tennis team earned a 5-2 win over Case Western in the semifinals of the ITA Indoor Championships to advance to the finals tomorrow.
The Stags move to 4-2 on the season, including 3-0 against Division III competition, after knocking off No. 4 Case Western for its second DIII win at the ITA Indoors, after defeating Trinity yesterday.
Warren Pham and
Matthew Robinson clinched the doubles point with a 7-5 win at No. 3, after
Josh Kim and
Advik Mareedu won 6-4 at No. 2. Kim then clinched the team win with a 6-4, 6-2 victory at No. 6, making the score 4-1.
Mareedu gave CMS a 2-1 lead with a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 1, remaining undefeated on the year in singles. Robinson, who had provided the clincher in the first three CMS wins, earned a 6-0, 6-4 win at No. 3 to stretch the lead to 3-1, and Kim finished it off with his straight set win at No. 6.
Pham earned the final point for CMS with a 2-6, 7-5, 10-6 win at No. 4, making the final score 5-2.
CMS will play for the ITA Indoor Championship tomorrow at 7 a.m. (Pacific time) against the winner of Chicago and Denison.
