CLAREMONT, Calif. -
Valerie Wraith led CMS with five goals, and goalie
Mason Spencer allowed one goal in the first half, while scoring one herself at the first-quarter buzzer as the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's water polo team cruised to a 19-3 win over Occidental on Saturday.
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps opened the game with six consecutive goals in the first period, with
Isabel Del Villar scoring the first goal at 7:06, Wraith scoring twice,
Elise Power adding one, and Spencer closing the frame with a goal at the buzzer, making it 6-0.
CMS extended its lead to 7-0 with a goal by
Jordan LaCour at 4:30 in the second period before Tori Carlson scored the Tigers' first goal at 0:15, closing the half with a score of 7-1.
In the third period,
Grace Clark and
Caitlin Muñoz started off with goals, and Wraith completed a hat trick with goals at 4:26 and 2:48, and CMS led 11-2 after the period. The final frame saw CMS scoring six more goals, including two from
Dara Schoolcraft, while Xochitl Ortega and
Sydney Kroonen added tallies.
LaCour finished with three goals from five shots, and 12 different Athenas tallied goals in all.
CMS will be back in action on Wednesday when it hosts Cal Lutheran for a 7 p.m. contest.
