CMS Women's Water Polo Coasts to Road Win over Redlands

REDLANDS, Calif. - Jordan LaCour had four goals as the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's water polo team dominated Redlands with an 18-4 victory at the Thompson Aquatic Center on Wednesday eevning.

The Athenas established an early lead with a 3-0 first period, with Isabel Del Villar scoring twice in the first period, at 5:19 and 4:47, the latter with an assist from Dara Schoolcraft. Jasmine Tang extended the lead with a goal at 0:13, closing the first period with CMS ahead 3-0.

The second period saw the Athenas continue their scoring streak, with Valerie Wraith converting a penalty shot at 7:41, followed by goals from Grace Clark and LaCour, making it 6-0 before UR's Emma Parker scored their first goal at 5:04. The Athenas responded, finishing the half with a 9-1 lead after goals by Wraith and Fiona Murphy.

In the third frame, CMS increased their lead with four more goals, including another by Wraith from a penalty shot at 4:39, leaving the score at 13-1 as they entered the fourth. The Athenas finished off the win with Tatum Dwyer, LaCour, and others contributing to the scoreboard, reaching 18-3 with just under four minutes left. 

LaCour led the Athenas with four goals on four shots, while Wraith also contributed with three goals, and Clark recorded three assists and one goal, while also winning a sprint. Among the defensive efforts, Natalie Stearns had five saves and did not allow a goal, while Angelina Tsai added three saves. Tang made an impact with three steals. Dwyer showcased efficiency by scoring two goals on two shots and added two steals to her performance.

CMS will be back in action on Saturday when it hosts Occidental for a Senior Day game at 11 a.m.
