ORANGE, Calif. -
Muduo Zhou won 6-0 at No. 3 doubles with
Ella Brissett, and then captured a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles as the second-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's tennis team earned a 6-1 road win over Chapman on Saturday.
With the win, CMS now stands at 15-1 overall and 5-0 in the SCIAC, heading into next weekend's tilt with No. 5 Pomona-Pitzer, which is also 5-0. Chapman slips to 4-11 overall and 0-5 in the SCIAC with the loss.
After Brissett and Zhou earned the first doubles win,
Emily Ing and
Lindsay Eisenman followed with a 6-1 win at No. 2, before
Rebecca Kong and
Alisha Chulani capped the sweep with a 6-4 win at No 1.
Zhou had the most dominant win in singles, but three others picked up quick straight-set wins as well, with
Rebecca Kong earning a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 4,
Celestina Cedillo-Vayson de Pradenne winning 6-3, 6-1 at No. 6 and Brissett earning a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 2.
The final two matches went three, with Chulani able to get the sixth point with a 6-1, 2-6, 10-3 win at No. 3.
CMS will travel to Pomona-Pitzer next weekend in a battle for the regular season title and the top seed in the SCIAC Tournament.
