CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's tennis team honored its two seniors,
Ella Brissett and
Alisha Chulani, prior to the match and went on to capture a 6-1 win over Occidental on Saturday.
With the win CMS improves to 13-1 and stretches its winning streak to eight matches, while moving to 3-0 in the SCIAC. Occidental falls to 7-8 overall and 0-3 in the SCIAC.
Brissett and Chulani have been a key part of consecutive national championship teams in 2022 and 2023, with Chulani winner her matches at No. 1 doubles in both, and Brissett clinching the first title in singles in 2022.
The Athenas picked up the doubles point with a clean sweep on all three courts, with Chulani and
Rebecca Kong finishing off the sweep with a 6-4 win at No. 1. Brissett and
Muduo Zhou won a 6-2 decision at No. 2, and
Celestina Cedillo-Vayson de Pradenne and
Emily Ing earned a 6-2 win at No. 3.
Chulani and Cedillo-Vayson de Pradenne each picked up 6-0, 6-0 wins in singles, and Ing added a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 6 for the first three singles points to get the clinch. Kong earned a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 3 and Zhou won her match 6-3, 6-2 at No. 4.
CMS will be back in action when it travels to Cal Lutheran on Friday.
