CLAREMONT, Calif. -
Caleb Settles and
Brandon Vu won 6-0 at No. 1 doubles, and
Advik Mareedu won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, as the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's tennis team took a quick 4-0 win over East Texas Baptist in the NCAA Regional semifinals on Friday at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center.
With the win, CMS improves to 29-2 on the year, including 29 wins in a row since two losses on opening day (Feb. 14), and will face Trinity (Texas) tomorrow in the regional finals. East Texas Baptist sees its season end at 14-5 with the defeat.
CMS earned the doubles point with Settles and Vu finishing off their 6-0 win at No. 1, followed quickly by Mareedu and
Josh Kim earning a 6-1 win at No. 2.
Warren Pham and
Matthew Robinson were up 5-1 and 40-0 at No. 3 when their match was halted.
Mareedu was the first to finish his singles match, taking a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 1, and Robinson followed with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 3. Settles earned a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 6 to close it out and give the Stags the 4-0 win.
Pham held a 6-3, 5-0 lead at No. 2 when his match was halted, while
Tarm Rojanasoonthon led 6-2, 5-1 at No. 5. Kim was also up a set and tied in the second, 6-1, 4-4.
CMS finished its match in 1:30, while Trinity needed 3:10 to get past Pomona-Pitzer 4-1 in its semifinal. If the Stags can defend their home court tomorrow, they will advance to nationals, which will be held at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center May 19-26.
