CLAREMONT, Calif. -
Advik Mareedu of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's tennis team earned the College Sports Communicators Academic All-America Team Member of the Year Award, the organization announced today.
The Academic All-America program recognizes student-athletes who combine athletic success with high academic achievement. Mareedu earned a spot on the Academic All-America first team for the second season in a row, and joins Josh Angle (men's basketball, 2022-23) as the only CMS student-athletes to earn the Team Member of the Year Award.
Mareedu won the NCAA Division III singles title this spring to cap off the greatest singles season in NCAA Division III history. He went 41-1 in singles overall, including 37-0 against Division III competition, dropping only four sets in those 37 matches. He also won the first set in every match, including his only defeat to Austin Stone of Division II Westmont, when he dropped the second and third sets in tiebreakers (6-2, 6-7, 6-7), including 8-6 in the third set.
Adding to the impressiveness of Mareedu's resume this season was the strength of the CMS schedule and the opponents he needed to face to achieve his undefeated DIII record. He defeated the final No. 2 ranked singles player (Kael Shah of Denison) twice, including 6-0, 6-1 to win the NCAA singles title. He also defeated the No. 3 player (Vuk Vuksanovic of Tufts) in a regular season dual, the No. 4 player (Noah Laber of Middlebury) in the NCAA Semifinals, the No. 5 player (Aiden Drover-Mattinen of RPI) in the ITA Cup Semifinals, and the No. 6 player (Ethan Green of Denison) twice (a regular season dual, and the ITA Cup finals).
Off the court, Mareedu carries over a 3.8 GPA as a computer science and mathematics major at Harvey Mudd. He has worked a tutor and grader at Harvey Mudd and also tutored high school students one-on-one at Apex Academy in STEM AP subjects including calculus and physics.
Mareedu was joined on the CSC Academic All-District team by teammates
Matthew Robinson and
Josh Kim. The Stags finished the 2025 season with a 31-3 record, while reaching the NCAA Division III Semifinals for the third year in a row, including a national finals appearance in 2024.
