EAGLE ROCK, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's swimming and diving team won every event as it returned to action after a one-month break with a dominant win over Occidental on Saturday.
Revere Schmidt won three individual events for CMS (200 breast, 200 fly, 1000 free), while
Annika Sharma (50 free, 100 back) and
Josie Kearns (one-meter, three-meter dive) each won two.
CMS opened the meet by earning the top three times in the 200 medley relay, with Sharma,
Mackenzie Mayfield,
Elyse Newlands and
Annette Chang clocking a 1:50.82 to win it.
Schmidt earned the first of her three victories in the 1000 free in 10:39.22, and was followed by
Avalon Sanders and
Samantha Wong in second and third.
Kyra Burns then led a 1-2-3 finish in the 200 free in 1:56.64, followed by
Louisa Lungershausen and
Corley Smith in second and third.
Nika Makhervaks won the 100 back in 1:00.41, with
Olivia Hoyla and
Mackenzie Mayfield in second and third. Newlands was then first in the 100 breast in 1:08.09 with
Sienna Bone second in 1:10.93.
Schmidt took the second of her wins in the 200 fly in 2:16.55, while Sharma won the 50 free in 25.32 to edge out teammates
Annette Chang and
Molly Beetner in second and third. Sanders, who was second in the 1000, took first in the 100 free in 53.32, while
Aanya Kongettira was second in 55.19.
Sharma edged out Makhervaks in the 200 back for her second win (2:09.89 to 2:10.10), with
Jane Sirotic third. Schmidt went 3-for-3 with a 200-yard breaststroke win in 2:29.69, and Lungershausen won a close race with Burns in the 500 free (5:13.44 to 5:14.59), with Wong in third.
Praise Okodogbe, who studied abroad in the fall, returned to win the 100 fly in 1:00.54, with Bone in second, and Newlands earned the final individual win in the 200 IM with a 2:10.32, followed by Hoyla and Makhervaks. Sharma, Mayfield, Chang and Sanders earned first in the 400 free relay in 3:38.04.
Kearns edged
Simone Sabeeh in the one-meter dive 452.00 to 436.10, with
Meilan Uyeno third with 428.20. Kearns then won another close battle with Sabeeh in the three-meter (267.50 to 258.40).
CMS will be back in action next weekend when it travels to La Verne for a double dual with Cal Lutheran.
