LA VERNE, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's swimming and diving team had a dominant performance in taking dual wins over Cal Lutheran 217-78 and host La Verne 238-35 on Saturday.
The Athenas had the top three finishers on both diving boards to open the meet, with
Meilan Uyeno winning a close battle on the one-meter 279.80 to 276.75 over
Simone Sabeeh, and Sabeeh winning the three-meter with 296.60 points, Uyeno second with 279.05 and
Josie Kearns third with 270.30.
CMS started the swimming portion of the meet with the top two teams in the 200 medley relay, as
Annika Sharma,
Elyse Newlands,
Sun Young Byun and
Madeleine Kan won it in 1:47.34.
Avalon Sanders earned the first individual win for the Athenas with a 1:54.64 in the 200 free, a victory margin of just over four seconds. She also added a win in the 500 free in 5:06.50, with
Revere Schmidt second and
Samantha Wong third.
Byun led a 1-2-3 finish in the 100 back with a 58.15, followed by Sharma and
Caitlin Kuhlmann, while
Nika Makhervaks won the 200 back in 2:08.86, with
Olivia Hoyla second. Byun then picked up another win in the 100 fly in 55.43, with Kan second in 58.54, while
Molly Beetner earned the win in the 200 fly in 2:15.65.
Newlands took first in the 200 breast in 2:26.52, followed by Mayfield and
Milan Manfredi, and Schmidt earned a win in the 400 IM in 4:38.73 in the final individual event of the day. Mayfield, Byun, Sanders and Kan swam a 1:37.72 in the 200 free relay to finish off the meet.
CMS will be back in action on Saturday when it hosts UC Santa Barbara for a 12 p.m. meet at Axelrood Pool.
