RIVERSIDE, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's tennis team took the doubles point in a tiebreaker, but Division I UC Riverside was able to take four of the six singles courts to come away with a 4-3 win on Saturday in the Athenas' first dual match of the 2025-26 season.
CMS, which was playing without defending national singles champion
Lindsay Eisenman, starts off its dual season at 0-1, while UC Riverside levels its record at 1-1.
Bell Zhou and
Leah Baroudi provided the doubles point by dominating the tiebreaker 7-1 at No. 3 doubles for a 7-6 win to give CMS a 1-0 lead going into singles.
Rebecca Kong and
Ananya Sriniketh also picked up a 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles.
Shifali Dinesh picked up a 6-3, 7-5 win at No. 3 singles for a win in her first collegiate dual match, and
Rachel Garton added a singles win in her debut at No. 5 with a 6-4, 6-2 win. Katarina Curcic was able to provide the close win for the Highlanders with a 6-3, 3-6, 7-5 win at No. 6.
The Athenas will have three weeks off before returning to action for their second dual, when they will face Division II Point Loma in San Diego on Feb. 13.
