REDLANDS, Calif. -

The loss was the first of the season for the Stags, who established the best start in program history at 16-0 on Monday night against Caltech, but who now stand at 16-1 overall and 7-1 in the SCIAC. Redlands moves into a tie for first in the SCIAC with CMS at 7-1, while also improving to 15-2 on the year.
CMS trailed by six at the final media timeout (65-59), but
Will Householter knocked down two foul shots to make it a four-point game. Kennedy made two foul shots to make it a 65-63 game, and then hit a lay-up with 2:05 to go, and converted an and-one to give CMS the lead.
Redlands' Cam Brown knocked down a three-pointer with 1:40 to go, but Jones came back the other way to tie it 68-68 on a lay-up off a feed from
Cahal Connolly. Each team had two chances to take the lead down the stretch, with CMS getting a chance to win it at the buzzer, but neither converted as the game went to the extra session.
Kennedy hit two buckets and Householter added one to give CMS a 74-70 lead, but Jake Hlywiak hit a big three-pointer for Redlands to cut it to one.
Nathan Noronha hit two foul shots and after Redlands tied it, Kennedy hit a jumper to give CMS a 78-76 lead with 1:02 to go.
Redlands split two foul shots, and ended up taking the lead with 18 seconds left on a Boston lay-up, and the Stags were unable to convert on their final possession.
Householter finished with 13 points for the Stags and Noronha added 10 off the bench, while Connolly tied Kennedy for team-high honors with 15 rebounds. The Stags did not make a three-pointer on the night (0-4), while holding Redlands to 7-34 shooting beyond the arc.
The Stags came into the day as one of only four unbeaten teams left in Division III with a program-record 16-0 mark. The old Stag record for best start to a season was 15-0 by the 2011-12 team, a streak which also came to an end with an overtime loss on the road (at Whittier). That team went on to win the SCIAC Championship in February to earn a trip to the NCAA Tournament.
CMS will be back in action on Saturday when it hosts Pomona-Pitzer for a Sixth Street Rivalry game at 5 p.m.
