CLAREMONT, Calif. -
Revere Schmidt finished in first place in the 1650, and
Sun Young Byun took first in the 200 free, as the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's swimming and diving team fell 185-76 to Division I UC Santa Barbara on Saturday at Axelrood Pool.
Schmidt won a close race to lead a 1-2-3 finish for CMS in the 1650, touching the wall in 17:32.03.
Corley Smith nearly caught her on the finishing stretch, but came in a close second in 17:32.35, with
Avalon Sanders taking third in 17:34.54.
Byun then earned an impressive win in the 200 free, clocking a time of 1:51.92, edging out Mai Kawahata of UC Santa Barbara in 1:52.64, with
Mackenzie Mayfield earning third for the Athenas in 1:52.77, which moves her into eighth in CMS history.
Katy Shaw had a strong swim in the 500 free to take second place in 5:06.47, with Smith right behind in third in 5:08.12 and
Louisa Lungershausen earning fourth.
Madeleine Kan was also runner-up in the 100 fly in 56.01 for CMS.
Annika Sharma earned a third-place finish in the 100 back in 58.19,
Elyse Newlands was third in the 100 breast in 1:04.76, and
Caitlin Kuhlmann took third in the 200 back in 2:07.37.
CMS will be back in action next weekend for its final regular season home meet, when it takes on Redlands for a 10:30 meet, which will also serve as the program's Senior Day.
