CLAREMONT, Calif. - Claremont-Mudd-Scripps will serve as the official host of the ITA West Regionals this Friday-Sunday, with matches taking place at both the Biszantz Family Tennis Center at CMS and the Pauley Tennis Complex at Pomona-Pitzer.
Action will get underway at 8:30 am on Friday with singles, where
Rebecca Kong is the No.1 seed and
Ananya Sriniketh is the No. 2 seed, after the duo played each other in the ITA West Regional finals last year. Kong made it all the way to the championship of the ITA Cup in Rome, Georgia, where she fell to senior Matia Cristiani of Babson, who went undefeated against Division III competition last year.
Bell Zhou and
Rachel Garton are also two of the four No. 5 seeds in the field, while
Georgia Garrett,
Leah Baroudi,
Alexandra Dewey,
Anika Malik and
Emily Gao will also be in the 32-player draw for the Athenas.
Kong and Zhou will be the top seed in the doubles competition, which gets underway at 5 p.m. on Friday after two rounds of singles are completed. Sriniketh and Baroudi will be the four seed, while Gao and Garton and Dewey and Garrett will be paired up as well.
The top two finishers in the singles and doubles competition will advance to the ITA Cup in two weeks in Rome, Georgia, while the ITA West Regional champions will secure ITA All-America honors when the full team is announced in June.
